Back with a vengence!

After an unexpected hiatus of 13 months, I am back. And what a time to start this blog again. There is so much information and inuendo being flung back and forth between the Republican candidates, not to mention accusations, that I hope that I can stay focused and not bombard you with multiple subjects.
It seems like the Republican party is bound and determined to self-destruct this time around, even more so than 2008, when they ended up with McCain and subsequently lost to Obama. Mitt Romny seems to be the Republican establishment's 'anointed one' this time around, but ending up with their candidate in 2008 worked out really well, didn't it? Newt Gingrich has surged in the polls, and took South Carolina, since his debate performances just before they voted in that state. However, he is slipping just a bit in Florida. I'm certain that his responses to questions  by members of the Liberal Main Stream Media fueled his surges, but the negative ads run by Romny and his 'Super Pacs' have begun to put him, (Romny), back on top in Florida as of today. Whether that lasts through the next few days until the Primary remains to be seen. However, the debate tonight, sponsored predominately by CNN, was in some ways the most substantial, at least after Rick Santorum chided both Romny and Gingrich for lambasting each other over their investments and past records when there are such important subjects to be discussed instead. The rest of the time was actually about how each candidate would handle some of the plethora of issues and Obama policies that need to be changed. And there are more than enough policies that need to be changed to keep any of them busy for quite some time, starting with the repeal of ObamaCare. However, I do have questions about whether or not Romny would actually call for the total repeal of ObamaCare, even though he says that he would. It is modeled after the Massachusetts law that he signed while Governor. And the Democrats will be as obstructionist as possible if we do get someone who beats Obama in the general election.
Since my blog is named "The Cranky Libertarian", you might assume that I am really a Ron Paul supporter, but that would be wrong. The Libertarian Party has nominated some very bright, good men, but Ron Paul is not one of them! And the system is set up so that a third party candidate cannot jump through all of the 'hoops' necessary to even get into the debates. Maybe that's why Dr. Paul continues to run over and over as a Republican. That way, he at least has a way to get his platform into the debates and discussions. And he does have a core of hard-core supporters. I'm just not one of them. Frankly, his foreign policy ideas scare the bejeeezes out of me. But don't get me wrong, I would vote for a soda can before voting for Obama. I was one of many people trying to tell people what they were really getting if Obama was elected, and we were right. When he said in his Inauguration speech that he wanted to fundamentally change the face of America, he was telling us what was in store, and he has done just that. Now we will have to work hard to reverse most of his policies before this Country falls off of a cliff. And if by chance  Obama IS reelected, I really fear that the America that we love will become just another European Socialist society of people feeding off of the government trough and demanding more. So, although I am not endorsing anyone at this time, stay tuned.  No more time off; I expect to be very active this election cycle.
